Therapy Services
Children with congenital heart defects (CHD) face unique emotional and psychological challenges, from coping with medical procedures to navigating differences from their peers. Parents of heart kids also carry an emotional and logistical burden that can feel overwhelming at times. As both a professional and a parent of a heart warrior, I bring a deep understanding of these experiences and offer support that goes beyond medical survival—helping families focus on emotional well-being, resilience, and thriving.
Supporting Heart Kids
Helping children and teens process medical experiences in a way that reduces fear and anxiety.
Addressing hospital trauma, medical anxiety, and procedural distress through developmentally appropriate coping strategies.
Supporting social-emotional development when health limitations impact friendships, sports, or school participation.
Encouraging self-advocacy skills as children grow, preparing them to navigate medical independence at their own pace.
Supporting Heart Parents
Managing the emotional weight of caregiving, balancing medical vigilance with the need for a full family life.
Navigating medical trauma, anxiety, and anticipatory grief, particularly around surgeries, procedures, or uncertainty about the future.
Providing strategies for explaining CHD to siblings and extended family, helping to normalize discussions about medical conditions in an age-appropriate way.
Advocating within the medical system, offering guidance on working with providers, coordinating care, and ensuring a child’s emotional needs are considered alongside their physical health.
Heart journeys are lifelong, and while medical advancements continue to improve outcomes, the emotional impact on children and families is just as important. My goal is to create a space where heart kids and their families feel supported, understood, and empowered to navigate both the medical and emotional challenges of CHD.
